Pro Max
Gypsum board

Description
Pro Max is an imported gypsum board for ceilings and partitions. Gypsum is set between two papers: an ivory face paper and a brown back paper. It is made on German machinery, with selected paper and chemicals.
One size: 1220 × 1830 × 12 mm. One board weighs 15.3 kg. For dry internal areas only.
Where to use
- False ceilings.
- Partitions and wall lining.
- Bulkheads and coves.
- Homes, offices, hotels, hospitals, shops and schools. Inside, in dry areas.
Features
- Stronger than the standard asks. More than 660 N along the board and more than 280 N across it. IS 2095 (Part 1) asks 500 N and 180 N of a 12.5 mm board.
- 15.3 kg for one full board. Lighter to lift. Less weight on the frame.
- Ivory face. Smooth paper. Joint, prime, paint.
- Tapered long edges. For a flat, hidden joint.
- Nail pull above 400 N.
- Solid core. Made to resist sag. (Maker’s data.)
- 100% natural gypsum. No hazardous substances. Recyclable. (Maker’s data.)
- Zip tape. Tear once. The pair of boards opens. No knife.

Each strength figure is a minimum from the supplier test certificate. IS 2095 (Part 1) asks 500 N and 180 N of a 12.5 mm board; Pro Max is 12 mm. These are test loads on the board, not loads that you can hang from it. The tolerances are the limits of IS 2095 (Part 1): 2023 for plain gypsum board. That standard applies the same tolerances to a board of another size. They are not measurements of this board.

Installation
Fix the boards to a level frame of galvanised steel sections. Fix them dry. Then finish the joints.
| Frame and fixing | Spacing | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Ceiling: intermediate channels | 1220 mm | Hung from the slab |
| Ceiling: ceiling sections | 457 mm | Under the channels, on clips. Flat face down. |
| Ceiling: board screws | 230 mm | 150 mm at the edges |
| Partition: studs | 610 mm | In a floor channel and a ceiling channel |
| Partition: board screws | 300 mm | Along each stud |
| Partition: board above the floor | 10 mm | Lift the board clear |
| Screw to a bound edge | 10 mm | |
| Screw to a cut edge | 13 mm |
Common practice for a 12 mm board. The span and the load set the final spacing: use the Metal-Max table for your ceiling.
- Frame. Fix the perimeter channel level on all walls. Hang the intermediate channels straight and level. Clip each ceiling section.
- Cut. Score the face paper with a knife along a straightedge. Snap the board. Cut the back paper.
- Fix. The ivory face goes to the room. The brown back goes against the frame. Lay ceiling boards across the ceiling sections. Use drywall screws. Set each head just under the paper. Do not break the paper.
- Stagger. Stagger the end joints from row to row. On a partition, put a noggin behind every board joint.
- Joint. Put joint tape and joint compound in the tapered joint. Let it dry. Sand it lightly. Then prime and paint.
Limits
- For dry internal areas only.
- Not for a bathroom. Not for outside.
- The strength figures are test loads on the board. They are not loads that you can hang from it.
Packaging
- The boards come in pairs. In a pair, the two ivory faces are inside, against each other.
- One 24 mm zip tape closes each pair at the two short ends.
- To open a pair: start the tear at one end of the tape. It runs along the middle to the other end.
- A pallet holds 70 to 80 boards.
Storage
- Store the boards flat, off the floor, under cover. Keep them dry.
- General practice: put the supports across the full width, not more than 600 mm apart.
- Do not stand the boards on edge.
Health and safety
- One board is 15.3 kg and 1830 mm long. Two people carry it.
- Cutting and sanding make dust: wear a dust mask and eye protection.
- Stack the boards flat, so that they cannot fall.
